Workshop #1
October 2, 2010
James Cottone & Jenna Kirk

"Orff Techniques in the K-8 Classroom"


Site:  North Elementary School, Brentwood

Time:  9AM-2PM

Come and experience the Orff Schulwerk "Music for Children", a way to teach and learn music through singing, chanting, dance, movement, games, drama, and the playing of percussion instruments.  Participants will experience how improvisation, composition, and a child's natural sense of play are encouraged through the Orff Schulwerk techniques!


Workshop #2

November 13, 2010

Participants are the Clinicians

“A Musical Tapestry”


Site: North Elementary, Brentwood

Time:  9AM-2PM

During this workshop, participants will present and share their favorite successful classroom music lessons.  Whether you are a new teacher or an old teacher, all lessons will provide a fun and fulfilling musical experience. Don’t forget some goodies for the Holidays to share!


Workshop #3

November 20, 2010

PEAK FESTIVAL


Site:  Northport High School, Northport

Come watch clinicians in action while working with the 4th Graders of Suffolk County!  Students will receive a unique musical experience while giving you “the teacher”, the chance to bring some new ideas back into your classroom.  Clinicians will expertly guide the students while explaining their methodology and teaching technique through the following sessions:  World Drumming, Recorder, Orff Instrumentation, Movement/ Folk Dance and Elementary Chorus.

January 8, 2011

Naomi Cohen

"Beyond Ta and Ti-Ti:  The Kodaly Approach Part II"


Site:  Burr Intermediate School, Commack School District

Time:  9AM-2PM

Come and enjoy movement and musical activities designed for students in grades k-5.  Through a combination of listening lessons, movement, instrumental playing, singing, and chanting, participants will fully experience the Kodaly Method for the Elementary music classroom. 
No Prerequisite Required.

 


Workshop #5

February 5, 2011

Dr. Tom Malone

“American Roots and Global Connections”


Site:  TBA, Smithtown School District

Time:  8:30AM-1:30PM

Dr. Tom Malone, a Professor at the Molloy College with a Doctorate in Music Education from Boston University, will open your eyes and ears to multicultural music from rural America and its many links to the diverse world around us.  Participants will be actively engaged through the sounds of the world by dancing, singing, chanting, and instrumental playing.  Participants will be able to bring lessons and techniques to the Elementary and Middle School General Music Classroom.

 


 Workshops can be taken for In-Service or Graduate Credit

*  Certificate for 5 hours of in-service credit for each workshop
