Tubaday Breaks Another Record!

Tubaday 2007
With 270+ Tubas on One stage the Howard Hovey Tuba Day broke another record! Tuba Day coordinator Bill Troiano shared his thoughts on the festival:

27 up and 27 down!!! No, Im not talking about pitching a perfect game. The 27th consecutive SCMEA Tuba Day event was held this past Friday, Nov. 2 at the Sayville Middle School. Howard Hovey Tuba Day continues to grow each year and this year was no exception with 253 students participating. Along with 20 teachers, that's one big Massed Tuba Ensemble!

This year's guest artist, Dr. Stacy Baker, is professor of euphonium and tuba at Morehead State University in Kentucky. She treated the audience and participants to some very fine tuba playing. All in attendance were extremely receptive to her performance and her warm, friendly manner. She was accompanied by the Long Island Tuba Quartet on four selections.

The Long Island Tuba Quartet kicked off the evening concert with Bill's son, Christopher Troiano's rockin' arrangement of "Time Warp", form the Rocky Horror Picture Show! And, it just got better from there!

The select All-Star Tuba Ensemble was outstanding in performing their two selections. Then, if you've been wondering if music teachers can really play, the Faculty Tuba Ensemble showed that they can!

But, you haven't heard anything until you've heard the 275 piece Massed Tuba Ensemble. I'm sure the walls in the auditorium at the Sayville Middle School will be vibrating for some time.

Please check back to the Day of Tuba section of our web page for other information regarding this festival as it becomes available. Before you know it, Howard Hovey Tuba Day 2008 will be here! Do you think we can fit 300 on the stage?

Thank you to all of the participants, teachers and commitee members of this year's Howard Hovey Tuba Day!!
