Fourth Grade Music Teachers

Join Our 3rd Annual SCMEA PEAK Festival!!!

Saturday, November 19th 2011 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Northport High School

PEAK?  What’s PEAK?   We all send our 5th through 12th grade students to All-County each year because it gives our most gifted and enthusiastic students a chance to shine, experience high-level musicianship, and interact with other talented musicians.  But did you know that there is also a SCMEA festival for fourth grade students that can give these younger musicians the same benefit?

Unlike All-County, the PEAK (Parents, Educators, and Kids) festival is held for only one morning, Saturday, November 19th and does not require students to prepare music before hand.  The PEAK festival is about talented fourth grade students learning and experiencing music in addition to performing it. Both you and your selected students will be invited to attend morning workshops in areas of music that may be “new” or “different.”  This gives your students a unique musical experience and gives you the chance to bring some new ideas back to your classroom.  The clinicians expertly guide the sessions toward both teaching the students and, at the same time, explaining to you their methodology and teaching technique.  This year we will be having workshop sessions on:

Orff Ensemble,Maypole Dancing,

Singing Games & Play Parties,

Tap Dance, Hand Bells, Chorus and More!

Still need more convincing?  Well, participation in the PEAK festival can also earn you 5 hours of in-service credit at no cost to you (make sure your district pre-approves).  Teachers attending without students may earn 5 hours of in-service credit for $25.  Like All-County, most districts even cover the small student participation fee of $15 per student, but please check with your music director before you nominate students.

So, I’m sure by now you are thinking: How do I sign myself and my students up for this amazing festival?  All forms can be download below.  Simply complete the teacher nomination form and student commitment forms  to nominate your students.  All nominations must be postmarked by October 19th.

I look forward to seeing you and your students at the PEAK festival this year and wish you all the best in the start of a new school year!  If you have any questions, please e-mail me and I will be happy to help!
